Kronos’s sickle struck rock, the metal sound echoing within the large cavern.
“Did that do anything?” Okeanos asked.
“I told you it was going to take more than a little power and one hit to do anything,” Kronos said over his shoulder. “I might be relatively new, but I seem to have a better understanding of things.”
Okeanos frowned, hoping the others didn’t notice embarrassment flush his face. It had been an honest question. Why did Kronos have to make him feel unintelligent?
The rest waited as Kronos examined his sickle and the rock.
“Well?” Iapetos asked.
“Well,” Kronos said, turning to them. “The amount of energy you gave me to empower it was not enough. It is going to take a lot more. And even if we get out, it would not stop Mother and Father from putting us right back in again.”
“What do we do?” Koios asked.
“We need to find a way to separate Mother and Father,” Kronos said. “They are too powerful together. They will always be able to control us. We will never be truly free unless they are separated.”
“Separated?” Themis said, thinking. “Yes, I think you are right. It was much easier to deal with Mother before Father became more involved.”
“How would we separate them?” Hyperion asked.
Kronos took a few steps, looking thoughtful.
“I am the key,” he said. “I can cut their connection with my sickle and absorb their power. Just as I have taken from some of you, I can take from them. This will weaken them enough so that they won’t be able to overpower us again.”
“Sounds like you already had the answer,” Krios said, frowning. “Have you known it this the whole time?”
“No,” Kronos said. “I’ve been piecing it together. Phoebe helped me feel more confident as I searched for my purpose. While you have all been complaining about me taking things and telling me that I am nothing, I have been collecting and storing away what feels right. Now, it’s finally coming together.”
He looked at Phoebe.
“Thank you, Phoebe, for believing that I was the key.” Kronos said, taking a few steps towards her. Koios moved to block him.
“You will not take anything from her,” he said.
“I don’t intend to,” Kronos said, backing away. “She has already given me what I need. At least, what I need from her.”
He turned to the others.
“But, I still need some things from the rest of you. More than this little amount Iapetos let me use as our first test. It did almost nothing. If you care about getting out, if you care about your independence, you will give me what I need.”
“What do you need?” Themis asked.
“More light,” he said, looking at Theia and Hyperion. “Much more of the energy and power each of you possess. This sickle must be transformed. It must be powerful enough to separate the Heavens and the Earth. It must be powerful enough to harvest their power, their connection, and channel it into something we can use against them. We must keep them from reconnecting. And with their power, we’ll continue to grow and evolve into something greater than they are.”
They all stood looking at each other.
“After we’re all free, you would keep the sickle?” Koios asked.
“Yes.”
Koios looked at Krios
“And you would keep the power you collect?” Krios asked.
“Yes.”
Krios shook his head.
“There must be another way.”
