Okeanos, Hyperion, Rheia, Tethys, Krios and the others grunted as their energy failed to push them out of Gaia’s earth.
“They must be there, pushing back on us,” Tethys said. “We can’t break through.”
“It’s because Kronos refuses to help,” Koios said, still catching his breath.
“It would make no difference,” Kronos said. “I have told you. Getting out is not the problem. It is staying out that matters.”
“We don’t trust you,” Krios said. “Giving you too much power could be dangerous.”
“I trust him,” Iapetos said, shrugging. “At least, I would rather get out and be free. There is more chance to grow out there than to stay here and do nothing. I still have my purpose to discover and I know I won’t find it here.”
They all stood quietly for a moment.
“I’m your only way out,” Kronos said.
“What is your plan exactly?” Koios asked. “Before we agree to trust you, and before we agree to give you some of our power, we need to know everything.”
“Before I can answer,” Kronos said. “I need Mnemosyne and Themis. I have pieces, but some are still missing.”
“What would you need from us?” Mnemosyne asked.
“Your memories,” Kronos said. “And her logic and understanding, however limited it is.”
Themis narrowed her eyes.
“It seems you feel you are superior to the rest of us,” she said.
“I am. It is a simple fact. I am more developed and have more power than you do. I am the key and it is not because I am weak and incapable. It is because I am strong and capable.”
Themis couldn’t argue with his logic, but his reasoning felt incomplete. Still, she looked at Mnemosyne and nodded.
The two sisters stepped forward and Kronos drew power from them, searching for what he wanted and taking what he needed.
Mnemosyne gasped.
“It feels awful, to have someone take,” she said. “Maybe this isn’t a good idea. I don’t like it.”
“It’s necessary,” Kronos said. “I’ve taken what I need. We will have to do the same to Mother and Father.”
“So what is your plan?” Koios asked.
“Mnemosyne has helped Mother and Father remember what it was like before we were born. She looked into their past and remembered for them. At first they were separate, acting somewhat independently within the void. It wasn’t until Father realized he could protect Mother from Khaos that he decided to surround her.”
“That sounds quite nice,” Rheia said.
“That is not important,” Kronos said. “From Themis, I can see that I can’t take all of their power or we’ll all be destroyed. I must only take what I need to weaken them while still maintaining the balance of the heavens and the earth.”
“What do you need?” Okeanos asked.
“Their connection. Well, at least Father’s connection to Mother. She can keep hers. We may still need it.”
“How will you take Father’s connection?” Iapetos asked.
“Father usually keeps his hidden. It would be easiest to find if they are together. When Father and Mother reach for each other to connect, it’ll likely be exposed and I can take it. I’ll need help holding Father in place so I don’t accidentally destroy him.”
“This all sounds rather dangerous,” Tethys said.
“It is,” Kronos said.
They all looked at each other.
“How would we get Mother and Father to connect? We have never seen them do it,” Koios asked.
“We’ll need Mother’s help,” Kronos said. “We must convince her to create again with Father. Then we can hold him down and take what we need.”
“This sounds horrible,” Mnemosyne said.
“It’s the only way.”
“Are you sure?” Krios asked.
“I am the key. This is the only way.”
